This is a Response to the Brain Rot wikithon

The younger generation is one that has been exposed to technology since birth. The advancement of technology allows information to spread widely in a very short time. Nowadays, information is often shared through platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. This ease of information dissemination marks the beginning of brain rot among the younger generation. These applications rely on short video features that can be endlessly replaced, which ultimately reduces human brain capacity.

This has become a cultural norm for the younger generation, as exposure to technology has become an integral part of their lives. Therefore, it will be very difficult to stop it entirely; several stages and small movements are needed to at least reduce this habit. This is my story in fighting brain rot!

Don't open your cell phone when you wake up. When I wake up I'm used to not holding my cell phone straight away. For me, morning is golden time. I don't want this golden time to be ruined by watching cheap content. For me, morning is the determination of the day, if I have started with things that are detrimental, then I will also be lazy all day. I then recommended this habit to my friends in high school. In response to school regulations that advance gate closing times, several students were late in the first few weeks. They then asked how I could arrive on time with such a long distance?

I then explained the rules at home starting from preparing at night to not playing on your cell phone in the morning. Au explained that we will not be satisfied with 15 minutes, 30 minutes or one hour to watch small change content. Because updated information can be changed with just one swipe of your finger. We will keep trying to change the content again and again until the clock strikes 6.30, LATE! Then I also explained that not holding your cell phone in the morning is a form of maintaining brain health by allowing it to produce energy from nature. Enjoying the morning by chatting in the dining room, letting the brain stimulate natural dopamine, yes, that's what I do. They then asked, "with the number of organizations and committees you are responsible for, is it possible not to hold your cell phone in the morning?"

Obviously you can. Who would send a message so early in the morning, right? From what I've learned, brain performance can be controlled, the way to do it is by getting used to it. My habit of activating my brain starts at 7.00/when I arrive at school. I will always convey this to my fellow organizations and they will certainly understand. Even when they finally implemented it, yes, they fell into a trap! Moreover, organizations certainly have a code of ethics, such as stopping the discussion if it is 20.00 PM and starting if it is 8.00 AM. However, for big days I will maintain this long distance communication. I can understand what my friends are concerned about. Sometimes the intention of the heart is just to reply to a message or peek at a notification, but instead it goes too far.

Until we come to a serious topic, brain rot! Actually, the rules at home were made after I started to lose my short-term memory or get confused when doing something. This started when I entered one year of high school, several factors required me to struggle harder in academics. I often watch learning videos until 1, 2 o'clock, I don't even sleep all day. That's not where the problem is, but when I try to get a moment of entertainment without having to get up from the study table. Yes, opening entertainment applications, I started diving 10, 15, and it turned out to be 1 hour. In the beginning, I was still tolerant, "once in a while", the first defense. "it's not too late", the second defense. "The news is hot, soon," the third defense said. Finally, he went to sleep with his cellphone still showing videos on entertainment applications. According to my parents, this is what causes me to often lose short-term memory or become confused. Too often consuming content that is only entertaining without educational value can cause problems with concentration and memory. In fact, when I initially just wanted to rest my brain with funny content, it actually made things worse. The knowledge I got from the previous lesson didn't stick well, I had to repeat it several times. My parents then took firm action by limiting cell phones to a maximum of 10.00 PM. I move my data to my laptop if I want to study late at night. This device change reduced my interest in watching small change videos, this is because the laptop was not designed for that. I also consciously limit these entertainment applications to only 1 hour per day, I choose to read books in my free time. Reading books, writing and singing have cured my brain damage a lot. I can concentrate better, respond quickly, memorize easily and get good entertainment.

When I read a book, I get hung up on one piece of writing. The article states that "humans are being paralyzed by other humans who only love money". It's so sad, I had to lose brain function just for someone's personal gain. They are smart, maximizing their applications on cellphones which of course everyone already has, anyone will open them every day, they take advantage. I also said that this was effective for a friend of mine who had just left Islamic boarding school. Maybe, after finally being in a cottage environment, he became addicted to exposure to this advanced technology. He always complained that his ability to memorize was decreasing. At that time he decided not to continue with the cottage for one and many reasons. He said what would it be like if he was addicted to his cell phone? I suggest again not to open the cellphone in the morning, we call it "Mobile Phone Fasting", in this version, he and I stop playing on the cellphone when we wake up and go to sleep. We replace it with writing, whether it's writing a schedule of activities, a story about the day or just writing, about anything. Several days later, he said he had experienced many changes. He and his family are closer, can study subjects at the new school and his memorization skills have improved!

And the lights are on! Oh my mother, she turned it on. Yes, I woke up late today. Luckily on Sunday, there wasn't anything scheduled. Unfortunately, the long story above is just an essay, I have not succeeded in convincing my friends to reduce cell phone use. At least I can have an impact even if it's just one person, right? Other friends, they are still addicted to cellphones, for them cellphones are half life. Hopefully they can find a solution as soon as possible.
