Social Media Time Limits: Go Out and Touch Some Grass
This is a Response to the Brain Rot wikithon
In my opinion, through the reading sources that I know, the way to reduce the negative effects of brain rot is to limit social media. According to AAP and WHO, sufficient and good time to use social media is no more than 2-3 hours a day. This applies to children, especially adults, although there are no specific restrictions that apply to adults. However, if we use our time wisely on social media, it will indirectly prevent us from unnecessary anxiety. Using something excessively will slowly damage us, one of which is brain rot, through anxiety, envy, too much competitiveness in a bad way, feelings of not being worthy, feelings of comparing ourselves with others, and can even cause mental health disorders to addiction. The Goodstats index shows that the average Indonesian spends more time on social media than other countries and is ranked 9th in the country with the longest duration of social media. A research journal entitled Computers in Human Behavior (2017) - shows research related to the impact of social media use on mental well-being. In English there is a term go out and touch some grass which means go out and touch something real in the sense of returning to real life, the reality faced because no matter how sophisticated the technology is, it cannot replace the touch of feelings and emotional connections of humans by meeting, interacting and talking directly, therefore it is important to have wisdom in using time for social media, starting from self-awareness to destroy bad habits.
