"Dopamine and Distraction: Overcoming Digital Media Addiction Wisely"
This is a Response to the Brain Rot wikithon
This addiction to digital media can be linked to the brain's reward system, which constantly seeks instant gratification. Every time we scroll through social media or watch short videos, the brain releases dopamine—a chemical that makes us feel pleasure. The problem is that this pattern can make people struggle with self-control and tend to continuously seek instant entertainment without realizing its impact on productivity and mental well-being. The solution is not just about reducing screen time but also about building healthier habits in consuming information. For instance, getting used to reading long-form articles, training focus through activities like writing or discussions, and setting time limits for social media use. Techniques such as digital mindfulness can also help us become more aware of our own consumption patterns. The key is to maintain balance not completely avoiding technology, but using it more wisely to keep the brain healthy and functioning optimally.
